Previously an award-winning journalist and travel writer, Judith and her unusal voice emerged from the closet once a whole series of bizarre and extraordinary events (including a very close encounter with a thunderbolt) obliged her to own up to her innate shamanic abilities. She studied the healing arts of vibration, linking colour and sound, and now uses her voice to help others soar in consciousness. Judith teaches yoga with sound and leads journeys to places on earth where the unearthly can most easily be met. She is now collaborating with the “indie meets world music” band The Phoenix Rose to give voice to the great mystery in an unlikely musical genre.

When I am working with an individual or group, be that in yoga  practice, as a healer or simply exploring the sacred and serene, something greater than little me teaches. Whatever that is, I couldn't give expression to it without a rich seam of personal experience as a human being. Yet the clarity and depth of wisdom astonishes me, even as I speak. Rarely do I know what is about to be said, yet it is me who is speaking. I don't think this is exactly what people call channelling, because I have a sense of being at one with the wisdom and a participant in its expression. In addition, something appears to be communicated in the very tone of  my speaking voice, so that people are often deeply moved but incapable of explaining why.

How did I come by all this? The ancient Sanskrit texts speak of the unlimited sea of consciousness open to one in whom Kundalini has risen. When that great fire consumed my form, gently but powerfully, it is possible that the old way in which I thought, felt, knew and existed, died. Certainly many unusual, paranormal and occasionally unlawful (in terms of known earthly laws) things occurred thereafter.

My knowledge of yoga comes from another time, laid apparently like an imprint into my body. The  unusually broad vocal range is both an expression of that and a consequence of the yoga practice. Maintaining my body in a certain way through yoga and sound allows it to carry frequencies that might otherwise disassemble the physical form.

We are living at a time of massive potential. If I can identify any one role that I might play in this, it would be to help or inspire people to recognise and live their individual and unique potential. May you live yours.
